CHEYENNE  – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) has joined the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) and the Wyoming School Boards Association (WSBA) to support “Take Your Elected Official to School Month.”

The SBE recognizes the vital role towns, counties, and the state play in bringing a quality education to Wyoming’s children and youth. Take Your Elected Official to School Month provides an opportunity to celebrate these contributions by bringing elected officials and Wyoming’s dedicated educators together with students in the classroom setting.

“The State Board is excited to partner with the WDE and WSBA in this invitation,” said SBE Chairman Ryan Fuhrman. “We have been working to increase our collaboration with stakeholders in our work on producing a Profile of a Graduate and want to encourage all levels of our education system, from the policy makers to the practitioners, to seek each other out for the unique expertise and perspective they share. Amazing things are happening in our Wyoming schools.”

“The Wyoming legislature and all of our elected officials across the state have always been supportive of education, and it is important for all elected officials to be aware of what is happening in Wyoming classrooms,” said WSBA’s Executive Director Brian Farmer.

Wyoming schools are encouraged to reach out to elected officials with an invitation to spend time in a classroom and experience firsthand the life of a Wyoming student. Schools may locate the names of contacts of state and county elected officials on their respective county website. Contact information for state representatives may be found here.

The SBE also invites educators and elected officials to share their experience on social media by using the hashtag  #WY2School and tagging @WYStateBoardEd and @WYOEducation.
