Career and Technical Education (CTE) is the cornerstone of introducing and preparing students for the workforce. From agriculture to 3D printing and welding to hospitality, CTE connects students to 21st-Century skills in demand. Students who take three consecutive programs in CTE have a graduation rate more than 98%, according to U.S. Department of Education.
Career and Technical Education (formerly vocational education) has a long and valued history in the education system in Wyoming. In 1917, the state legislature established the Wyoming State Board of Education with duties that included promoting education in agriculture, trades, and industries.
The board’s duties were more clearly defined in 1919, including general oversight in the area of vocational education. W.S. 21-2-307 establishes the state board of education to act as the State Board of Career and Technical Education (SBCTE). In that capacity, the board reviews Career and Technical Education programs offered by the school districts to ensure the programs serve the needs of students and are aligned to the state content and performance standards.
