CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will meet via the Zoom online platform at 9 a.m. on January 22, 2021. The board will discuss several items prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which include state accountability exceptions and alternative schedules for the 2020-21 school year.

The SBE will take action on requests submitted by school districts for an exception to the state’s accountability system. All 48 districts requested the exception for the 2020-21 school year, because of the inability to administer the statewide assessment in the 2019-20 school year due to COVID-19.

The board will also consider requests for alternative schedules for the 2020-21 school year. Districts requesting approval include Sublette #1 and Fremont #14.

Additional actions will include adoption of the Computer Science Performance and Math Extended Standards, approval of the Contingency Reduction Plan to the School Foundation Program funds in the SBE budget, and approval to promulgate Chapter 6 rules regarding district and school accreditation.

The SBE will open the meeting with presentations on the results of a recent survey on Standards-Based Grading in Wyoming school districts, and the Wyoming 2030 project.

Register in advance for the meeting here. After registering, participants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the session.

Materials for board meetings are now available on BoardDocs. Previous meetings’ minutes and materials may be viewed through the board’s website. The SBE also can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
