CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will hold a regular meeting starting at 8 a.m. on May 22, virtually on the online Zoom platform to take action to approve exceptions to Wyoming accountability requirements for all 48 school districts as provided under Chapter 3 emergency rules adopted at its April meeting.
The board will first convene as the Wyoming State Board of Vocational Education to receive an update on Wyoming’s Perkins V Plan for career and technical education on the topics of requested revisions to the plan, funds allocations, and externships.
The SBE will then reconvene at the Wyoming State Board of Education to take action on school districts’ alternative calendar requests and future board meetings.
Discussion topics will include definitions of state standards and how they will apply to Computer Science standards, as well as other subject areas. The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) will present the charter school annual report, which assures the board that students attending a charter receive the same opportunities and education consistent with other students in a district.
The WDE will also present an update on the work of standards committees for Math, Science, Physical Education, and Fine and Performing Arts. Finally the board will discuss Chapter 47 rules. In accordance with W.S. 21-2-204, the rules shall provide distinct accountability systems for alternative schools and all other public K-12 schools. By July 1, 2020, the SBE, as required by W.S. 21-2-304(a)(vi), shall promulgate rules to implement the statewide accountability system.
