CHEYENNE  – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will hold a one-day meeting next week to approve indicator and school-level cut scores for the state accountability system as well as rules on school leader evaluation. The meeting will start at 8 a.m. on October 12, 2018 at the Pathways Innovation Center, 3000 Independence Court, in Casper.

The SBE will first meet as the State Board of Vocational Education to hear an update on the Perkins V plan from the Wyoming Department of Education. The SBE will then convene to take action on November 1 Legislative Reports regarding the Professional Judgment Panel (PJP) and State Systems of Support for Alternative Schools. Both reports impact the state accountability system, which underwent changes during the 2017-18 school year. A new method for rating alternative schools was also implemented last year. The fall school performance ratings will incorporate all of these changes.

The SBE will also take action on public comment from Chapter 29 Rules on Leader Evaluation. Emergency rules were enacted in June 2018 and the SBE is now considering permanent rules. Additionally, board coordinator Dr. Thomas Sachse will report on the September 2018 Joint Education Interim Committee meeting in Casper and PJP recommendations for the 2018 state accountability system.

The complete October meeting agenda is available here. All meetings are open to the public and can be joined on Zoom, or by calling (646) 558-8656 using access code 452-354-8969.
