Board Reiterates Support for Indian Education for All in November Meeting
November 29, 2016
CHEYENNE – The Wyoming Joint Education Interim Committee has voted to sponsor a bill adding an ex-officio, non-voting member from the University of Wyoming (UW) to the Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE). Jim Rose, the executive director of the Wyoming Community College Commission, is already an ex-officio board member. State superintendent of public instruction, Jillian Balow, is a voting ex-officio member. The legislature will consider this bill in the upcoming session.
“Forging a closer relationship with the University of Wyoming will help us make stronger policy decisions for Wyoming students,” said Pete Gosar, SBE chairman. “We look forward to learning more about our state university’s perspective on K-12 education.”
During the SBE’s regular November meeting, members reiterated their support for Indian education for all students in Wyoming, a priority they hope will also be considered by the legislature during the upcoming session. The board then discussed the upcoming addition of a career-ready exam for Wyoming’s students and K-12 leader accountability; these will be considered during the next SBE meeting.
