CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will hold a regular meeting on May 19-20, 2016 at the University of Wyoming, College of Education Room 117 in Laramie, Wyoming.

The board will hear reports from the SBE coordinator and Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) liaison about legislative tasks and updates, the National Association of State Boards of Education grant, strategic planning, and updating the SBE policy and governance manual. Status reports will be provided on the Every Student Succeeds Act, the Chapter 31 rules revision and the 2017-18 biennium budget. Afterwards, the board will hold discussions on proposed science standards, revisions to the Chapter 10 rules, and revised K-1 English Language Arts (ELA) extended standards for students with cognitive disabilities.

State Superintendent Jillian Balow will also share an update with the board, and Laurel Ballard, WDE student/teacher resources team supervisor, will give a presentation on digital learning. SBE committee chairs will then report on committee work.

In addition to the above agenda items, the board will approve its meeting schedule for 2016-17, take action on alternative meeting schedules, and consider adoption of the revised K-1 ELA extended standards as well as the 2016 science standards. The board will convene as the Wyoming State Board of Vocational Education on May 20, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. and hear updates from WDE career and technical education staff.
