The board works closely with the Wyoming Department of Education to develop and approve Wyoming State Content and Performance Standards across 10 content areas. The purpose of standards is to ensure that all schools align their locally developed curricula with expectations, and to promote a culture of achievement across Wyoming. Standards must be reviewed and/or updated at least every nine years and are designed to promote college and career success in a 21st century economy. The board and the Wyoming Department of Education may assemble a review committee, as has been the case for the Wyoming Science Content and Performance Standards (Science Standards Review Committee).
In addition to a review committee, public meetings and online engagement opportunities, stakeholders are invited to participate in the public input period. This occurs after the release of the committee’s final draft and during the mandatory 45-day public comment period.
