CHEYENNE – The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will hold a regular meeting on October 13-14, 2016. The meeting will start at 12:00 p.m. on October 13 at the Fremont County School District #1 boardroom located at 863 Sweetwater Street in Lander.
The board will hear reports from the SBE coordinator and Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) liaison about legislative reports, possible 2017 legislation, the November SBE meeting, and updating the SBE policy and governance manual. Status reports will be provided on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), state assessment request for proposals and on the Wyoming Accountability in Education Act. The board will then hear a presentation from Jackie Freeze, chairwoman for Complete College Wyoming.
State Superintendent Jillian Balow will share an update, and Kenya Hayes, state coordinator on homeless education, will provide information on homeless education in ESSA.
On October 14 the board will hear updates from the SBE committees, and about the board’s strategic planning session. A discussion about SBE rules will be facilitated by Foresight Law + Policy.
The board will also take action on potential providers for Court Order Placement of Students, the October 15 report to the Wyoming Legislature and consider adoption of presented SBE policies. The full agenda is available here.
